Terms of Service
Effective date: August 4, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of SlideJot's products and services, including the slidejot.com website, the SlideJot app for macOS, the SlideJot app for iPhone and iPad, related free tools we publish (such as the PopClip extension and Migration Assistant), and license activation services (together, the "Services").
By accessing the website, downloading or using the apps, starting a trial, or purchasing a license, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.
1. Who we are
"SlideJot", "we", "us", and "our" refer to the operator of slidejot.com and the publisher of the SlideJot apps. Questions about these Terms can be sent to support@slidejot.com.
2. Eligibility
You must be able to form a binding contract under applicable law to use the Services. The Services are not directed at children under 13. If you use SlideJot on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
3. The Services at a glance
- SlideJot for macOS is a desktop app distributed from our website. It includes a free trial and is sold as a one-time license (not a subscription).
- SlideJot for iPhone and iPad is free on the App Store, with no in-app purchases and no requirement to own a Mac license.
- Your content stays yours. Jots and attachments are stored on your devices and, if you enable it, in your own iCloud account. We do not operate a content backend for reading your jots.
- No SlideJot account. There is no sign-up or login for the apps. Paid Mac licenses are activated with a license key.
4. Website
You may browse slidejot.com for personal, non-commercial information about SlideJot. You may not scrape, overload, or interfere with the site, attempt unauthorized access to our systems, or use the site to distribute malware or spam. Product descriptions, prices, and availability may change; if there is a conflict between marketing copy and these Terms or your purchase confirmation, the purchase confirmation and these Terms control for that transaction.
5. Software license (macOS)
5.1 License grant
Subject to these Terms and payment of applicable fees, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable (except as described in Section 6), revocable license to download, install, and use SlideJot for macOS on the number of devices permitted by your license plan ("seats"), solely for your personal or internal business use.
5.2 What you may not do
Except as allowed by applicable law that cannot be waived, you may not:
- copy, distribute, rent, lease, sublicense, or resell the software or a license key;
- share one license key beyond the seat limit of your plan;
- circumvent trial limits, license checks, or device activation;
- modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works of the software;
- remove proprietary notices; or
- use the software for any unlawful purpose.
5.3 Ownership
We and our licensors retain all right, title, and interest in the Services, including software, branding, and documentation. These Terms do not sell the software to you; they only grant a limited license.
5.4 System requirements
SlideJot for macOS currently requires macOS 14.0 or later. Requirements may change as the product evolves. You are responsible for having a compatible Mac and operating system.
6. Trials, purchases, and seats
6.1 Free trial (macOS)
The macOS app offers a 7-day full-feature trial. Trial state is stored locally on your Mac. When the trial ends, you may continue to view and edit existing jots, but creating new jots requires a paid license. The trial exists so you can evaluate fit before buying.
6.2 License plans
Current one-time plans (prices may change for future purchases; your paid plan is the one shown at checkout):
- Essential — 1 device seat
- Premium — 3 device seats
- Team — per-seat pricing, minimum 5 seats
Each paid plan unlocks the macOS app's premium features on the allowed number of devices and includes lifetime updates as described in Section 7. A Mac license does not unlock paid features on iOS; the iOS app has no paid tier.
6.3 Payment and delivery
macOS licenses are sold through Stripe. By purchasing, you also agree to Stripe's applicable terms for payment processing. After a successful purchase, we email your license key to the address you provide at checkout. You are responsible for providing a valid email address and for keeping your key confidential.
6.4 Activation and moving seats
Activate a license in the macOS app (Settings → License). Activation contacts our license service so we can enforce the seat limit for your plan. You may deactivate a device from within the app to free a seat for another Mac you use. "Transferable license" means you can move seats among your own devices this way — not that you may sell, gift, or publicly redistribute the key without our written permission.
6.5 Lost keys
If you lose your key, email support@slidejot.com from the address used at purchase and we will help resend it when we can verify the purchase.
6.6 Refunds
Because SlideJot for macOS includes a free trial and delivers a digital license key, purchases are generally final once the key has been delivered. We do not offer refunds solely because you changed your mind after buying, or because a feature preference differs from expectations after the trial period.
If you were charged in error (for example a duplicate charge), cannot receive a key after payment, or cannot activate due to a problem on our side, contact support@slidejot.com promptly with your purchase email and receipt. We will investigate and, where appropriate, refund or re-deliver. We may also grant a goodwill refund at our sole discretion.
iOS downloads and in-app use are free; any App Store billing issues for other apps are handled by Apple, not by us.
6.7 Taxes
Prices may be shown exclusive or inclusive of taxes depending on checkout. You are responsible for any taxes that apply to your purchase, except taxes based on our income.
7. Updates and changes to the product
"Lifetime updates" means that, for as long as we publish updates for the licensed macOS product line you purchased, you may install those updates at no extra license fee under your existing plan. We may add, change, or remove features over time. We do not promise any particular roadmap, release schedule, or that the product will be offered forever.
The macOS app may check releases.slidejot.com for updates. You can choose whether and when to install updates. Continued use after a material update may be subject to these Terms as updated under Section 14.
8. SlideJot for iPhone and iPad
The iOS app is free to download and use. It does not require a Mac license, SlideJot account, or in-app purchase. Distribution through the App Store is also subject to Apple's terms. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content, except as required by Apple's own policies.
Optional camera and photo features only access media you choose to capture or select. Optional iCloud sync uses your Apple ID and Apple's services under Apple's terms and privacy policy.
9. Your content
You retain all rights to the text, images, and other material you create or store in SlideJot ("Your Content"). We do not claim ownership of Your Content. You are solely responsible for Your Content and for backing it up as you see fit.
Local data lives on your devices. If you enable iCloud sync, Your Content is stored in the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple ID; we cannot read it and are not responsible for Apple's service availability or for data you delete or fail to back up.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Services in violation of law or third-party rights;
- abuse license activation, support, or update infrastructure;
- attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer our license or payment systems; or
- misrepresent affiliation with SlideJot.
11. Third-party services
The Services may depend on third parties, including Stripe (payments), Apple (iOS distribution, iCloud, system frameworks), Cloudflare (website hosting), and YouTube if you play embedded videos on our site. Their services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party outages or policy changes outside our control.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT YOUR CONTENT WILL NEVER BE LOST.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers. In those places, the disclaimer applies to the fullest extent permitted.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLIDEJOT AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE MACOS LICENSE GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50 IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID US.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such limitation is prohibited).
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised Terms on this page and update the effective date above. For material changes, we may also provide additional notice (for example on the website or by email when we have your address). Continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Services and, for a paid license, contact us about your options.
15. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to license activation or other online components if you materially breach these Terms (including abuse of keys or payment fraud), or if we must do so for legal or security reasons. On termination of a license for breach, the license grant ends and you must stop using the paid software. Provisions that by nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and this survival sentence) will survive termination.
16. Export and sanctions
You may not use, export, or re-export the software except as authorized by the laws of the United States and any other applicable jurisdiction. You represent that you are not prohibited from receiving the software under such laws.
17. General
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Services and supersede prior agreements on that subject. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Headings are for convenience only.
Depending on where you live, you may have mandatory consumer rights that these Terms cannot override. In that case, these Terms apply only to the extent permitted, and your statutory rights remain available.
